Road Design

TMR has an obligation to ensure internal technical staff have the necessary capability to be involved in the road design development and delivery of District and Regional infrastructure projects. Maintaining technical capability is important for the department's ability to act as an informed buyer and informed by business needs. Whilst improving skills through mentoring and experience is paramount, technical training is also a key component of technical development, especially for designers and engineers.

The Road Design Unit’s training program supports the technical capability and development of the department’s employees, including industry providers by:

  • Providing an integrated and consistent approach to preparing road designs and associated documentation, by implementing a system that contributes to a standardised approach to design and drafting.
  • Fostering relationships and partnerships with other business disciplines, industry bodies, educational institutions and other subject matter experts, which enhances personal growth contributing to career development for internal and external staff.
  • Highlighting an area of the department's centre of expertise and technical excellence, needed to support appropriate technical outcomes on infrastructure projects.
