Welcome to your People Matters module as part of your Passport 2 Leadership program!
People Matters is a management development program developed by the Public Service Commission. The program provides current and aspiring team leaders with the practical skills and confidence to effectively manage people, performance and change in the workplace. It aims to help our leaders increase innovation, productivity and the performance of their team, while improving workplace engagement and diversity. The program aligns to the Workforce Capability Success Profile for team leaders (manages individuals), and supports public service employees' performance obligations.
Leading in the Public Sector
Module 1 of People Matters is delivered online and provides an introduction to the context of working as a supervisor in the Queensland public service.
The content covered includes:
- The legislative framework that supervisors and managers work within
- The structure and systems of government in Queensland
- The role of supervisors and managers in delivering government objectives
- The role of supervisors and managers in creating a constructive workplace culture and shaping the future workforce.
Leading Teams
Module 2 of People Matters is delivered through interactive face to face workshops, focussing on::
- The role of the team leader
- Accountabilities and responsibilities of a team leader
- Management styles
- Building productive team.
Communicating Effectively
Module 3 of People Matters is delivered through interactive face to face workshops, focusing on:
- Team leader communication.
- The importance of listening.
- Communicating to resolve disputes.
- Conflict management processes. .
Managing for High Performance
Module 4 of People Matters is delivered through interactive face to face workshops, focusing on:
- Defining high performance and aligning with Government objectives
- The role of the team leader in supporting high performance
- Setting performance goals and conducting performance conversations
- Team leader skills for supporting high performance.
Leading Change
Module 5 of People Matters is delivered through interactive face to face workshops, focussing on:
- Impacts of change on performance
- Responses to change, including resistance and emotional responses
- Leading change
- Key features of successful change efforts
- A practical model for leading change.
Recruitment and Selection
Getting the right people on board is critical to the success of any organisation. This People Matters module provides a solid understanding of the process within the context of the state public service and provides a framework for effective recruitment, selection and employee on-boarding.
After the workshop you will be able to:
- Apply the recruitment and selection merit principle
- Apply best practice strategies to make valid and informed choices in selections that better predict future performance
- Understand the importance of selection and on boarding to retain valuable employees.
