Translink Disability Awareness Training

Attendees will learn from consultants with diverse, lived experiences of disability. They will delve into an array of topics, including:

  • What is disability?
  • Models of disability
  • Diverse disability (e.g., intellectual, and/or physical disability, deaf or hard of hearing, blind or low vision, neurodivergent)
  • Barriers
  • what is customer dignity?
  • Person first language and appropriate terminology
  • Inclusive communication & unconscious discrimination
  • Identifying and responding to challenges for people with disability,


Participants will gain the following learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of inclusive communication approaches and principles for people with diverse disability.
  • Be able to identify potential challenges and barriers for people with disability in physical environment and develop strategies to respond to needs of people with diverse disability.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the attitudinal barriers that people with disability may experience.
  • Be able to identify ways to deliver positive customer for people with disability to overcome environmental and attitudinal barriers and identify ways to support people with disability to work for or engage with TransLink.
