Early intervention, absence management and return to work

About this course


This is a 60 mins course (face to face), 45 minutes for content delivery and 15 minutes for any questions.  

 

This course provides learners with a refresher on managing employees who are away from work due to an injury/medical condition, work or non-work related, impacting their ability to perform inherent requirements of their role. Learners will increase their awareness of how to support employees to maintain connections with the workplace and return to work as quickly as possible. Learners will also increase their awareness on relevant processes to appropriately manage employees' absence from work. 

 

Content  

  • Workplace psychological health and safety risk factors and how they contribute to psychological injury 
  • Effective communication strategies that promote early intervention and maintaining workplace connections  
  • Normalising psychological injury rehabilitation with a focus on care, ability and safe RTW, similar to the processes for a physical injury. 
  • The psychological impact of injuries and illnesses on employees (for example, frustration, anger, isolation) 
  • Identifying, preventing and managing psychological barriers to return to work for physical and psychological injuries. 
  • Absence management - approach and best-practice process for minimising issues with employee long-term absence, or intermittent but high absentee rates 
  • Rehabilitation and return to work process including workers' compensation claims, income protection claims, supporting employees building their fitness for work by providing suitable duties and return to work on gradual basis.
